The UK will leave the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) and will no longer be:
- a member of the Euratom Research and Training programme
- a member of Fusion for Energy
- able to work through the EU on the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project

Awards and consortiums
We will work with the European Commission to make sure you can continue to participate in awards where you’ve successfully bid directly to the European Commission on a competitive basis.
We are working with the European Commission to consider the implications for UK participants leading a consortium and are responsible for distributing funding to the other participants.
International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER)
The UK will not be a member of Fusion for Energy from 1 January 2021. You will not be able to bid for ITER contracts through Fusion for Energy.
Contracts signed before 30 March 2019 with ITER will continue until the contract end date for:
- UK nationals employed by ITER
- UK operators – like private companies, institutes and universities
Joint European Torus (JET)
JET operations will continue at Culham Centre for Fusion Energy until the end of 2020.
